FAQ

1.  How does SWFCA work?

SWFCA is available to Wake County residents of Fuquay-Varina and Willow Spring who have true emergency financial needs. Not an income supplement, SWFCA has always tried to help those who simply cannot pay their monthly bills caused by situations like job loss, major medical problems and other significant life events.

2. What types of assistance
does SWFCA provide?

Once we understand your emergency situation, we try to help you sort through your expenditures and your needs. After the application process, and if SWFCA determines we are able to assist you financially, we will also try to find as many other resources as possible in the nonprofit and government sectors to help you into the coming months.

3. Where do you have to live in order to qualify for SWFCA assistance?

Geographically, any residents living in Wake County with an address in Fuquay-Varina (zip code 27526) and Willow Spring (zip code 27592) are eligible for potential financial assistance. One small section with “Angier” addresses, but who reside in Wake County (27501), may also qualify for assistance.

4.  How does SWFCA determine who qualifies for financial assistance?

SWFCA considers all information that you can provide that proves why you are not able to pay your monthly bills. For example, your financial emergency may be due to you or your spouse being laid off, or financial stress may be caused by a significant medical problem. Learn more from our Services page.

5.  How extensive is SWFCA’s help to local residents?

In recent months, SWFCA helped an average of 47 families each month. Many of these families no longer qualified for county assistance. Since SWFCA incorporated in October 2006, over 1,600 individuals have been interviewed and nearly 900 families have received financial assistance.

6.  What other potential financial help can SWFCA provide?

SWFCA may be able to assist you with further financial consideration through an arrangement with Western Wake Crises Ministry (WWCM) in Apex. After extensive review of your application, SWFCA volunteers will determine if you potentially warrant additional financial help at WWCM. We can only make a recommendation to WWCM. You must fill out an application at WWCM, bring all relevant documents outlining why you’re having a financial emergency, and be interviewed prior to any confirmation of additional financial help.

SWFCA also has information on additional Wake County resources including non-profit organizations and other information that may help your household during your emergency.

7.  How is SWFCA funded?

SWFCA is funded with significant contributions from area churches. We also receive donations from individuals, corporations and from various grants. SWFCA receives no governmental funding. Learn more about making your gift to SWFCA.

8.  What type of donations can SWFCA accept?

As a financial emergency non-profit, SWFCA primarily welcomes any financial donations from individuals or businesses. From time to time SWFCA has administrative, office or other needs. Receiving non-financial contributions like these helps us in our mission to financially assist as many residents as possible. Because SWFCA is a registered non-profit, tax exempt organization your financial contributions are tax exempt. Visit the How to Help page for more information on donations to SWFCA.
